Protect Redwood City Classrooms From Deep Cuts

Due to rising costs and unstable State and Federal funding, RCSD is facing painful layoffs and deep cuts. Measure C is the local solution to protect our elementary and middle schools.

  • Helps prevent further cuts to teachers, counselors, and school staff
  • Protects critical basic programs, including math, science, reading, and writing
  • Helps maintain manageable class sizes instead of pushing more classrooms to the maximum allowed
  • Keeps strong schools at the center of a strong Redwood City community

Keep the Best Teachers and Academic Programs

Great teachers are the most important part of a quality education. But many local educators are struggling with the high cost of living, and RCSD risks losing them to less expensive areas or higher-paying districts.

  • Attracts and retains qualified teachers, counselors, and school staff
  • Supports strong reading and writing instruction
  • Maintains hands-on science classes and math/science enrichment
  • Protects STEM, arts, and music so students receive a well-rounded education

Fair to Taxpayers, Focused on Students

Measure C is structured so large commercial properties and corporations pay their fair share, while smaller homes and businesses pay less.

  • Raises about $12.2 million per year for Redwood City schools for 8 years
  • Costs 17.5 cents per building square foot, with a cap per property
  • Includes exemptions for seniors 65+, qualifying SSI/disability recipients, and qualifying low-income homeowners
  • Funds are restricted to educational purposes and cannot be used for administrator salaries or pensions

Local Control, Accountability, and Equity

Every dollar stays local and is protected by oversight, audits, and public reporting. The measure is also designed so every school benefits, with additional support for higher-needs schools.

  • All funds stay in Redwood City schools and cannot be taken by the State or Federal government
  • Independent citizens' oversight, annual audits, and public reporting help ensure funds are spent as promised
  • 50% supports districtwide programs and educational staff salaries
  • 50% goes directly to school sites, with a $50,000 base per site and additional funding based on enrollment and student need
